Expeditions to the South Pole
The Aerotours expeditions to the South Pole in the winter of the year 2000 was the logic sequel of the successful expedition to the Geographic North Pole months before, with the objective to perform the first balloon flight over the two poles of the Earth. The logistics of this expeditions were much more complex than the preceeding one due to ythe caracteristics of the Antarctic continent, and we had to travel 2.200 kilometers over the ice with experimental vehicles never tested in this hostile environment.
The expedition was a great success, making the first flight in a manned balloon over the South Pole on 08:50 GMT of 8th January 2000. A milestone in the aviation history and the polar expeditions achieved by Aerotours.
